THE GLOBAL WORK REBEL SCHOLARSHIP FUND, RIOT AND MENTORING INITIATIVE
The Global Work Rebel Scholarship Fund, Riot And Mentoring Initiative is an ongoing collaboration programme that I 2021 started with Hakalahden koulu, my old junior high school in the tiny coastal town of Kokkola, Finland where I was born and where I attended middle school for grades 7 to 9.
The Global Work Rebel Scholarship is given annually to one 9th grade student decided by the faculty members of Hakalahden koulu.
The GWT Scholarship is not based on grades but the most important selection criteria is ability to challenge status quo, ask questions, be humane and stay curious towards the world.
The first GWR Scholarship recipient was chosen in 2022, followed by selections in 2023 and 2024 and currently all former GWR scholarship recipients are still participating the mentoring programme.
In addition to mentoring The Global Work Rebel Scholarship Fund, Riot And Mentoring Initiative also includes various forms of collaboration with the current faculty and student body of Hakalahden koulu. Our latest exercise included 129 ninth grade students who participated in work shops and conversations regarding to topics related to school, life, sustainability, equality, work, climate crisis, bullying and future.
The next GWR Scholarship recipient will be selected in June 2025.
The GWR Initiative is ongoing and will never be complete.
